Connecting legacy software using a Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) server plugin bridges outdated Windows applications with modern industrial automation or data logging systems. DDE is an older inter-process communication protocol that allows two applications to share data dynamically using a client-server architecture. How the DDE Integration Works
In a legacy setup, a data logger or industrial automation tool acts as the DDE server (or uses a DDE client bridge), parsing raw hardware data and exposing it. The legacy software acts as a DDE client that initiates a “conversation” to grab or send that data.
DDE data routing relies on a strict three-level address syntax: Application|Topic!Item Use code with caution. Use DDE with the Server – Support.ptc.com
